Musical Tribute to Venezuela
In partnership with Casa de Venezuela
The Music Ensemble of Casa de Venezuela promotes the culture, roots, traditions and folklore of Venezuela. Join us as the Music Ensemble takes us through a cultural journey complete with a traditional folkloric dance performance in honor of Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel’s ticketed engagement with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Verizon Hall.

Nathan Laube, organist
Nathan Laube is a rising star among young classical musicians. A native of Chicago, Nathan began his music studies at age five and at age 15, he was accepted as a full scholarship student at the renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Nathan is currently a fourth year student at The Curtis Institute, where he studies with Alan Morrison (organ) and Susan Starr (piano). The postlude will take place following the ticketed performance by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Verizon Hall.

Leana Song
Born in blossoming Northern Liberties, this diverse ensemble takes direction from Shawn Hennessey, for whom the term American-African was invented. You may have seen these do-gooders on M.I.N.D TV, formerly WYBE, teaching African rhythms to scores of Philly youth in public and private schools. These musicians feel it is their social responsibility to increase Philadelphia’s awareness of the world’s rhythm, and now with their debut record “Orisha Love Song’s Vol.1” they plan on taking Philadelphia’s rhythm to the world.

Experience the messages of jazz and more in this exhibit of paintings and mixed media. The exhibit will be featured in Commonwealth Plaza prior to the ticketed performance by the Fred Hersch Trio, part of the Jazz Up Close series in Perelman Theater.

First Person Arts Story Slam
First Person StorySlams are real-life-storytelling competitions. Each slam has a theme which elicits stories from the life experiences of Philly’s storytellers. Who are these local tale spinners? Everyone with a story and a little sense of competition is encouraged to participate. Join us for a free First Person Arts Story Slam in the Commonwealth Plaza prior to the ticketed evening with Ira Glass event in Verizon Hall.
