Rennie Harris: The Philadelphia Experiment
Christopher Huggins: Enemy behind the Gate
Ronald K. Brown: No More Exotica
Talley Beatty: Pretty is Skin Deep, Ugly to the Bone

A contemporary dance tradition that’s enjoyed worldwide acclaim for more than three decades, Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO) pulls out all the stops to bring audiences their favorite works. Don’t miss this program highlighting dynamic dance works you know and love! Globetrotting pacesetter of the hip-hop theater movement, Philly's own Rennie Harris brings it back home with The Philadelphia Experiment. Enemy behind the Gates, a work created by former Alvin Ailey dancer Christopher Huggins, continues to floor audiences since its premier in 2001. Set to a spellbinding score composed by Steve Reich, hailed "the most original thinker of our time" by The New Yorker, a dynamic atmosphere of pulsing rhythms envelops an unstoppable tour de force of explosive energy in motion.

La La La Human Steps
Amjad
Thursday–Saturday, November 6–8, 2008, 7:30pm

Perelman Theater

Internationally-acclaimed for its incredibly inventive formula for distinctive choreography, La La La Human Steps makes its Philadelphia debut with the U.S. east coast premiere of Édouard Lock's Amjad. Set to a new score composed by Gavin Bryars and David Lang of Bang on a Can, this new work takes its inspiration from two of the most notable ballets of the Romantic period, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. Amjad is composed in part of passages from these ballets, but deconstructed, reconstructed and adapted to current musical and choreographic worlds. It exhibits a dynamic synergy between intricate body movement and improvised musicianship. From the hyperphysical to the lyrical, redefine your perception of the body and dance!

Rennie Harris Puremovement
100NakedLocks—World Premiere
Friday–Saturday, February 20–21, 2009, 7:30pm
Saturday, February 21, 2009, 2:30pm

Perelman Theater

Hold onto your hats people! Philly's own internationally acclaimed dance troupe, Rennie Harris Puremovement (RHPM) unleashes a fresh bag of kickin’ tricks. Inspired by the futuristic vistas of the sci-fi genre, 100NakedLocks. does for dance what Kool Keith did for hip-hop music and what Octavia Butler's Kindred did for the Slave Narrative. Designed as a sci-fi journey into the unknown 100NakedLocks is a highly rhythmic and highly charged choreographic piece. The work surveys how tomorrow's hip hop may appear and how today's cultural conflicts, natural disasters, and environmental changes may potentially lead to the erosion of humankind creating a desolate world for the last 100 [hip-hop] survivors.
